This breed is patient with children and dogs. American Shorthairs are mellow and quiet. This breed is typically fairly long lived and healthy.

    American Shorthair Trivia: American Shorthairs are descended from British Shorthairs. American Shorthairs come in dozens of different color combinations. American Shorthairs can be prone to congenital heart defects. Male American Shorthairs are usually 50-75% larger than females.
